Om jobbet

The Department of Neuroscience includes several research groups working on different aspects of nervous system function, both under normal conditions and in various disease states. Research projects include a broad range of studies on the molecular and cellular levels, networks of neurons, and the organization of the nervous system as a whole. The Department has a flat organization with 40 research group leaders, of which 24 are full professors, and 65 PhD students.

Teaching represents a fundamental activity at the Department, which participates in several undergraduate courses and postgraduate education programs. Each year approximately 15 students receive their PhD from our Department and many of our graduates have gone onto distinguished careers in the academic or private sector.

The research group of professor Abdel El-Manira aims at understanding how the diversity of neurons and circuits in the central nervous system controls the versatility of motor behavior. We use a range of advanced techniques including electrophysiology, optogenetics, imaging and molecular biology to link the function of neurons, circuits and behavior.

Duties

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing and coordinating the work in the lab with regard to generation of new transgenic zebrafish lines, single cell RNA sequencing from neurons, in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry experiments. The successful applicant is expected to provide support to many ongoing projects in the lab as well as conducting specific projects. In addition the applicant is expected to manage the different zebrafish lines used in our research.

Entry requirements

The candidate must have a strong background in molecular neurobiology, with special focus on circuits in the brain and spinal cord controlling locomotion. The candidate must have documented experience in working with zebrafish using molecular, anatomical and biochemical techniques.

The candidate should be motivated, well organized and self- and result-driven combined with the ability to plan, coordinate and execute work both independently and in a team environment. Excellent skill in English is a requirement.

Application process

An employment application must contain the following documents in Swedish or English:
