The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research, the predominant activity, is often done in collaboration with corporate and international partners. We are one of the university’s largest, oldest and most well known departments, encompassing five interacting scientific fields: biology, chemistry, material physics, applied physics and theory and modelling.

LINKÖPING UNIVERSITYHereby advertises a position as
Postdoctor in Molecular Physics – Neutron reflectometry and ellipsometry
formally based at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM)
DutiesThe purpose of the project is to integrate ellipsometric methods at beamlines for neutron reflectometry, for simultaneous studies of surfaces using multiple optical methods, and the use of these for investigations of polymeric materials at interfaces and in thin films. Preparation of surface-grafted polymers, and characterization of these with various physico-chemical methods, are integral parts of the project. At the division, many projects build on cross-disciplinary activities, and the duties might be adjusted in accordance with the background of the applicant. This project will be carried out in close collaboration with researchers at the University of Heidelberg, and at the neutron source ILL, Grenoble.
A Postdoc will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but during no more than a fifth of work time.
QualificationsApplicants must have a background in ellipsometry or neutron reflectometry (preferably both) for studies of soft matter, and should be experienced in preparation of surface-grafted polymers. Previous experience of surface chemistry, radical polymerization methods, vibrational spectroscopy, and development of optical systems would be favourable, but not necessary. Fluency in English is desired.
The position requires a doctorate or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application.
Appointment timeTwo years.
SalaryThe University applies individual salary scales adapted to the experience of the employee and to the labour market.
