Department of Ecology
At the Ecology Centre of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), in Uppsala, Sweden, we conduct research on populations, communities and ecosystems. We generate knowledge on how land use and climate affects animals, plants, nutrient cycling and greenhouse gas balance, and develop sustainable solutions for the future. Active outreach and frequent dialogue with stakeholders are key activities.
Duties:
We are looking for a coordinator, who will serve as the Head of Logistics for our worldwide sampling campaign in project LIFEPLAN (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/projects/lifeplan). This is a major, six-year initiative funded by the European Research Council (ERC). Based in Uppsala, the coordinator is in charge of the practical implementation of the global, Nordic and Malagasy sampling campaigns (see https://www.helsinki.fi/en/projects/lifeplan/instructions), focusing on the transfer of samples and equipment between sites, the preprocessing of samples in Uppsala and their transport for further analysis elsewhere. In these tasks, the coordinator will work in daily collaboration with the second LIFEPLAN coordinator in Helsinki, who is responsible for communication between LIFEPLAN teams around the globe. As a key part of their tasks, the Uppsala-based coordinator will lead a team consisting of two full-time research assistants conducting multi-scale sampling and targeted experiments in Sweden (see https://www.helsinki.fi/en/node/83770).

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should hold at least an MSc degree in Biology, or in a related fields of direct relevance for the task, and the capacity to solve a wide range of problems. Previous experience of (research-related) project management is considered an asset, particularly of managing large numbers of samples with different processing workflows. Good written and verbal communication skills in English are required, and knowledge of Swedish is useful. The candidate must demonstrate an ability to take initiative and work independently as well as in a team. As the team leader, the applicant must demonstrate evidence of independent and creative thinking, planning and problem solving, and should be prepared for extensive field periods during the summer months.
