Here we have the research specializations of Embedded Systems, and Innovation and Product Realization. Position descriptionThe VINNOVA funded FIN (Future Industrial Network) project will enable effective rollout of new technologies and innovations in the process industry by reducing the barriers to an effective information exchange between IT (Information Technologies) and OT (operational technologies) in a harmonized infrastructure. The project is expected to help bring forward digitalization in the process industry by developing a consolidated IT/OT network infrastructure that simplifies system integration and enables new secure online products and business models.
Together with ABB, Westermo and Iggesund Paperboard we will develop solutions and technologies where industrial networks can handle different types of traffic classes (control traffic, video flows, VoIP, etc.) or even access to cloud solutions, all in the same infrastructure and without locking in information due to the automation pyramid. To reach the project goals, the researchers will study use cases, network architectures, cyber security, network planning and configuration. Key aspects in the project are network performance, traffic patterns, quality of service and network redundancy. In the end of the project there will be a demonstrator during full production at Iggesund Paperboard.
The two PhD students will work closely with the FIN project team but are also expected to work independently. It is expected that the PhD students will spend part of their time at ABB and Westermo.
QualificationsOnly those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education may be appointed to doctoral studentships. For futher information see Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100).
To qualify as a PhD student, you should have a strong background in computer networks and real-time communication and will work in the intersection of IT and OT networks. To be eligible for the positions, applicants should have a master degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent, with an emphasis on computer networks and real-time communication on the link and network layers. Analytical and practical skills are considered as merits.
The positions require a strong motivation for research, and good verbal and written communication skills in English. Decisive importance is attached to personal suitability.
