Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment
The Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment (www.slu.se/aquatic-sciences) is working with applied environmental science, with a national responsibility for assessing the condition of Swedish surface waters with respect to water chemistry, pollution and aquatic biota. The department has some 130 employees. The research focuses on geochemical and hydrological processes, aquatic ecology and biodiversity, as well as on aquatic ecotoxicology and environmental chemistry. The department is part of a Soil-Water-Environment cluster, a recently established competence centre for landscape-level processes that also includes the Departments of ‘Soil and Environment’ and ‘Energy and Technology’. The breadth of expertise among the 300 members in combination with a well-equipped infrastructure creates a unique platform for high quality research as well as environmental monitoring and assessment.

Duties:

You will participate in data analyses and the writing of scientific publications within the ARCTIC-BIODIVER project, with partners in the US, Canada, Denmark / Greenland, Norway and Sweden, and the Swedish EPA-funded REFINE project. The project aims to understand how organism communities, food webs, and ecosystem services in alpine/Arctic lakes and rivers are changing in a warmer climate.

Qualifications:

The applicant must hold a PhD in aquatic ecology or equivalent, preferably with a profile in Arctic ecosystems and their food webs. Documented experience of how stable isotopes and/or lipids are applied in food web research, of experimental studies, and of work in Arctic/alpine environments is meriting. Good skills in oral and written communication in English are required, as well as a valid driver's license. Previous postdoc experience is a merit.
