Om jobbet

The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 53 500 students and 6 500 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

At the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences (BioEnv) we have teaching and research activities that stretch from the alpine ecosystem, through forests, cultivated land and streams, all the way into the marine environment. In these environments we study different levels of biological organization from genes, species and populations, to communities and ecosystems. We work within ecology, evolution, physiology, systematics and combinations of these fields in order to understand the impact of natural and anthropogenic changes of the environment.

The department is placed at three different localities: in Gothenburg Botanical Garden, at Medicinarberget in Gothenburg and Kristineberg Marine Research Station. The current position is placed at the Gothenburg Botanical Garden.

Project description

The Gothenburg Global Biodiversity Centre (GGBC; https://www.gu.se/en/ggbc-global-biodiversity) was launched on January 1st, 2017 and is hosted at the Department of Biological and Environmental Science (http://bioenv.gu.se/). The Centre has two main goals: to serve as a platform for furthering world-leading biodiversity research, and to bridge the gap between scientists, the public and industry through collaboration and outreach. The GGBC represents a long-term collaboration among 17 organisations, including the following institutions at the University of Gothenburg: the Department of Marine Sciences, the Department of Biological and Environmental Science, the Department of Geosciences, the Department of Economy and Society, Herbarium GB, and the Centre for Sea and Society as well as the Department of Technology Management and Economics at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg Botanical Garden, Havets Hus, Maritime Museum and Aquarium, Nordens Ark, Gothenburg Natural History Museum, Universeum Science Centre, Slottsskogens Zoo, Västkuststiftelsen, IVL the Swedish Environmental Research Institute, and (from 1 July 2021), Naturbruksförvaltningen.

  • Coordination of the GGBC member base (currently ca. 170 people) and internal communication
  • Representing the GGBC in meetings and presentations with partners, collaborators and stakeholders
  • Coordination of the GGBC’s involvement in the European-Commission funded SYNTHESYS+ (http://www.synthesys.info/), including organization of biodiversity informatics training and a summary document of select laboratory protocols
  • Engagement with the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in a Changing Climate (BECC) strategic research area in areas of mutual interest
  • Engagement with Universeum and development of their biodiversity program, in collaboration with the GGBC
  • Support in writing external grant applications
  • Compiling reports, including the Annual Report and funding/project reports
