Subject area

The position is in Medical sciences with focus on cellular immunology and vascular disease.

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a common manifestation of atherosclerosis, affecting arteries in the leg, and is highly prevalent in the elderly population. Increasing evidence suggests that gut microbiota and gut microbe-derived dietary metabolite trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) from certain diet is associated with the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis in cardiovascular disease, however their role in pathogenesis of peripheral arterial disease is unknown.
