Om jobbet

Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research, the predominant activity, is often done in collaboration with corporate and international partners. We are one of the university’s largest, oldest and most well known departments, encompassing five interacting scientific fields: biology, chemistry, material physics, applied physics and theory and modelling.

Hereby advertises a position as

Postdoctor in sustainable resource management
formally based at the department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM), division Theoretical Biology.

A Postdoc will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but during no more than a fifth of work time.

The advertised position would work to develop and carry-out a study to evaluate the potential role of urban agricultural training as an experiential learning intervention to change attitudes and behaviors related to phosphorus management.

Transforming from today’s unhealthy and harmful food system to a sustainable one requires engagement all along the food chain, from farmers to consumers. Cities, as centres of food consumption and waste production, contribute to resource demand (e.g. mined phosphorus fertilizers) and pollution (e.g. phosphorus induced eutrophication of waterways). Despite their collective purchasing and voting power, urban consumers remain one of the most elusive actors to engage in deep sustainability transformation work. Experiential learning has successfully altered rural farmer nutrient management and met other citizen educational goals. However, it has not been tested as an intervention to change food consumer preferences and actions across scales. This project will test the hypothesis that training, in the context of urban agriculture as an experiential learning opportunity, can alter participant behaviours in their gardens, and their diet and waste management preferences beyond the garden.

This position comes with a large amount of flexibility with regards to how to design and carry-out the study.

The position requires a doctorate or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application.

We are looking for someone who has a PhD in sustainability science, psychology, geography or related discipline. We aim to hire a motivated person with good initiative and organizational skills, and with the ability to work independently.

The candidate should have the following qualifications:
  • experience working with diverse community members (e.g. citizen science, interviews, workshop development)
  • experience designing experiments in real-world settings
  • knowledge about the theory and practice of individual behavioral change
  • track-record of high quality peer-reviewed publications
  • capacity to work in a transdisciplinary team
Additionally, the ideal candidate would have:
  • experience with writing grants and applications to work with non-academic partners
  • track record of public science outreach and visualization for non-academic audiences
  • knowledge of systems thinking and analyses
  • knowledge of statistics
  • familiarity with R
  • knowledge and experience with nutrient management problem and solutions (nitrogen and phosphorus)
  • knowledge and experience around urban agriculture as a type of nature-based solution
  • capacity to speak and write in Swedish
