Department of Economics
The Department of Economics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) invites applications for a two-year Post-Doctoral position to join its research group “Agricultural and Food Economics”. This post-doc position will be associated with a research theme related to farmers’ uptake of sustainable agricultural practices, and will have a focus on drivers of uptake (including behavioural drivers) and thus on the supply of produce from sustainable systems. There will also be a focus on the economic consequences of uptake. In particular, the post-doctoral researcher will work in one of the work packages of Mistra Food Futures, which is an externally funded interdisciplinary research programme conducted in collaboration with academic as well as non-academic partners. The programme vision is to create a science based platform to enable transformation of the Swedish food system into one that is sustainable, resilient and that delivers healthy diets.

SLU is a world-class university in the fields of life and environmental sciences, with a vision to play a key role in the development for sustainable life, based on science and education. Within this framework, the Department of Economics provides an important platform for research and teaching in Economics and Business. The teaching activities are centered around educational programmes at Bachelor and Master level. The research departs from four thematic fields, where agricultural and food economics is one.

In the research group “Agricultural and Food Economics” the research interests include production economics, consumer economics, agricultural and food policy, and trade. The topics of interest add to the literature in agricultural economics and related fields. We have vivid disciplinary as well as interdisciplinary collaborations, for instance with researchers in crop production, animal health and veterinary epidemiology. The group currently consists of about 18 staff-members, including several PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, senior researchers, a research assistant, a senior lecturer and a professor.

Duties:

Successful applicants are expected to (1) actively contribute to the group’s research in this field, in particular to drivers and economic consequences of uptake of sustainable production practices in Swedish agriculture; (2) develop independent research leading to high quality scientific journals’ publications, and (3) eventually apply for external research funding. You may also be expected to supervise students’ theses at all levels and to contribute to other teaching activities within the research area of the group.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant should have a background in agricultural economics, food economics, economics or closely related field. Experience in interdisciplinary research is a merit. It is also a merit to have worked with behavioural approaches in relation to economic research.

We are looking for highly motivated applicants who can work both independently and in teams, is used to taking own initiatives, and have documented experience publishing in high quality scientific journals. Very good skills in English (both written and oral) are required.  Personal characteristics will play a significant role in the recruitment process.
