Water quality impacts of eutrophication mitigation measures
The aim of this PhD project is to evaluate how effective are eutrophication mitigation measures in reducing nutrient and sediment concentrations in agricultural streams by evaluating the dominant hydrochemical and biogeochemical processes. This new knowledge will help to form guidelines on how to manage agricultural streams. The PhD work is part of a 3-year Formas project, which brings together scientists and stakeholders from Sweden and US, working on improving water quality in agricultural landscapes. The successful candidate will join a scientific community of researchers, post-docs and PhD students at the Department of Soil and Environment (https://www.slu.se/en/departments/soil-environment/) and Research School Focus on Soils and Water (https://www.slu.se/en/graduate-schools/focus-on-soils-and-water/). Qualifications:The applicant should have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Hydrology, Water Quality Management, Environmental Science, Earth Sciences, Soil Science, Ecology, Agronomy or similar subjects. Practical knowledge of hydrological and ecological methods, experience in planning and conducting field and laboratory experiments, good writing skills and understanding hydrological and water quality models, will all count as merits. The applicant should have the ability to work both independently and in a team. A proven ability to communicate in written and spoken English and a driving license valid in Sweden are required.
Evaluation will be based on submitted material including CV, motivation letter, Master thesis and other publications. Short-listed candidates will be interviewed, and if needed a written essay may be requested.

A person has basic eligibility for third cycle education if he or she has taken a second cycle qualification or has completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 higher education credits at second cycle education. Upper secondary school grades equivalent to English B/English 6 are a basic requirement.
Selection among applicants meeting the requirements is made with reference to written application including curriculum vitae, copies of degrees and transcripts of academic records, one copy of the dissertation for masters or undergraduate degree, a list of at least two references familiar with the applicant's qualifications, certified knowledge of the English language and an interview.
