Hereby advertises a position asPhD student in Materials Physics,
formally based within the Thin Film Physics Division at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM).
Duties
We are looking for a candidate that will develop a new combination of thin film materials with exciting properties, such as high hardness and toughness and study related deformation mechanisms, for applications in next generation of functional coatings. The applicant will work with various aspects of magnetron sputtering techniques, in particular control of growth dynamics and in-situ growth characterization. In focus is PVD processes development, materials synthesis and characterization.As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.
Qualifications
Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.The applicant should have MSc degree or equivalent in physics, materials chemistry or materials science/engineering. Documented experience from PVD synthesis methods, like magnetron sputtering, plasma analysis, as well as thin film characterization techniques like XRD, DIB; SEM, TEM, XPS or nanoindentation is beneficial.
Fluent English spoken and written is required.
Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years´ full time research training.Starting date
