PhD student in Materials Physicsformally based within the Thin Film Physics Division at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM).
DutiesWe are looking for a candidate that will develop a new family of thin film materials with exciting properties, such as high hardness, wear, and oxidation resistance, for applications in next generation of functional coatings. The applicant will work with magnetron sputtering techniques, and in particular High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (HiPIMS). In focus is PVD processes development, plasma tailoring, and materials synthesis and characterization. The work will involve close contacts with industry.
As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.
QualificationsQualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.
The applicant should have MSc degree or equivalent in physics, materials chemistry or materials science/engineering. Documented experience from PVD synthesis methods, like magnetron sputtering, plasma analysis, as well as thin film characterization techniques like XRD, SEM, TEM, or XPS is beneficial.
Fluent English spoken and written is required.
Appointment timeThe appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. The employment may be renewed for no more than two years at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years´ full time research training.
