DutiesThe laboratory engineer will work in a research group with development on the use of tannins extracted from spruce bark for various applications in the cellulose industry. The work involves testing of tannin-based flocculants in laboratory and pilot scale, as well as development of a continuous production of microbial-based biocide replacement.
The cellulose industry uses large amounts of chemicals as retention aids and quality-enhancing additives as well as biocides to control the microflora in various parts of the process. We are researching new bio-based materials that can replace these chemicals.
The research group has long experience of physical and chemical characterization as well as extraction of valuable components from biomass. The group's activities are based on a combination of basic research and various applications on a pilot and industrial scale.
The current research project is funded by Bo Rydins research foundation and relates to the application of natural products isolated from the surplus of biomaterials from the forest within pulp and paper production. The project is carried out in close collaboration with industrial and academic partners in Sweden.
QualificationsKnowledge in technology, physics or chemistry, as well as experience in research work, is an advantage. The candidate must good knowledge either Swedish or English in speech and writing.
Basic qualification has the one who has completed the degree at advanced level, e.g.: bachelor in physics or chemistry, MSc in chemical engineering, engineer at university level. The applicant should have good knowledge in physics or chemistry, primarily technical chemistry or biotechnology such as fermentation technology. Competent is also the one who, in another way, within or outside Sweden, acquired the corresponding knowledge.
The application must consist of a brief description of the experiences you have that make you suitable for the task and why you are interested in the service as a laboratory engineer, curriculum vitae including grading exams from university studies and names of two reference persons. Degree projects and publications should also be submitted if they exist.
