Department of Biomedical scienceThe Department of Biomedical Science offers a programme leading to a professional qualification, Biomedical Scientist (first cycle, 180 credits), and a Masters’ programme, Biomedical Surface Science (second cycle, 120 credits), as well as first and second cycle freestanding courses. The Department negotiates the multifaceted intersection between biology, chemistry, medicine, physics, and technology and the interdisciplinary approach to research and education aims to further the theoretical and practical understanding of the complex subject matter. Drawing on the balance between pure and applied research, the Department has been successful in attracting funding from regional, national, and international research funding bodies. In addition, in the pursuit of possible applications, several industry funded contract research projects are currently running at the department.
About the positionThe position as associate senior lecturer is intended to provide early career researchers with an opportunity to develop their independence as researchers and advance their research and teaching expertise for the purpose of enabling them to fulfil the requirements for appointments as senior lecturers. This is a tenure-track position which can be held for a maximum of four years. An associate senior lecturer who meets the qualification requirements for employment as senior lecturer has the right, upon application, to be considered for promotion to a permanent position as senior lecturer (see below).
The position duties include not only research, but also teaching within the programmes and courses offered by the Department, specifically regarding courses in alignment with the topics Bioelectronics, Biochemistry, and Sensor Technology related to Biomedical Analysis. Teaching duties include course coordination, supervision, course administration, and various managing tasks. The overall four-year research teaching ratio should be 3 to 1.
QualificationsIn order to qualify for appointment as associate senior lecturer, the applicant must have:
- Obtained a PhD in Biomedical Science, Bioelectronics, Biochemistry, or other relevant discipline no more than 5 years prior to the application deadline for the appointment. Applicants who obtained their PhDs more than 5 years prior to the application deadline may be considered under special circumstances, including sick leave, parental leave, clinical work, duties as a union representative or other similar circumstances.
- Documented experience of teaching and research with regard to the topics Bioelectronics and Biochemistry specifically related to Biosensor Technology.
- Experience of teaching in English
- Experience of operation and development of bioelectronics in biomedical applications
- Experience of industrial development of biosensor technology
- Completed postdoctoral employment or postdoctoral stay after graduation
